Recreation

The Power of Play

Humans are built to move, create and interact. To connect constituents to such opportunities, MetRec supports rec programs and projects that bring individuals together and address high levels of social isolation.

These programs create community... I see people who didn't know each other start hanging out, going to coffee, and forming deep friendships. That's just as important as the activity itself.

Our trails are special because they allow a lot of multi use, whether that be bikes or walkers or hikers or beach goers.

When the adults continue to stay silly, to play, to be vulnerable, and to be honest within community, then kids learned that that is a value, not a weakness.

Community-Identified Recreation Needs

In 2025, MetRec published the Regional Recreation Master Plan—a community-led roadmap guiding recreation investment and collaboration across the district for the next5–10 years. The plan builds on a 2023 Recreation Survey and is based on public conversations, work sessions, surveys, and meetings.
